The XFL, which was originally launched in 2001, was founded and run by professional wrestling promoter Vince McMahon and his company, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). McMahon served as the chairman of the XFL and played a key role in developing the league’s unique brand of football, which featured a faster pace of play, fewer penalties, and a greater emphasis on entertainment value.
After the XFL’s initial season in 2001, the league faced financial losses and struggled to maintain its audience, ultimately leading to its closure. However, in 2020, the XFL was relaunched under new ownership, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital purchasing the league with the goal of reviving it and offering a new brand of football for fans to enjoy.
