The San Antonio Brahmas relied on a dominant rushing attack to defeat the Arlington Renegades 25-15 at Choctaw Stadium on Saturday night. Running backs John Lovett and Morgan Ellison combined for 179 of San Antonio’s 190 rushing yards, helping the Brahmas improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the XFL conference. The Renegades, meanwhile, remain winless at 0-5.

San Antonio wasted no time asserting their dominance on the ground, with Lovett breaking off a 36-yard run on the game’s opening drive, setting up a 43-yard field goal by Ryan Santoso. The Brahmas’ defense also came out strong, with linebacker Delontae Scott recording a sack on a crucial third down to force a Renegades punt.

The Brahmas extended their lead to 9-0 when quarterback Quinten Dormady found tight end Alize Mack wide open for a 24-yard touchdown. Running back Morgan Ellison then broke off a 47-yard run to set up another scoring opportunity, which Lovett capitalized on with a one-yard touchdown run, giving San Antonio a 15-3 lead.

The Renegades showed signs of life when quarterback Luis Perez connected with JaVonta Payton for a 52-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 15-9. However, the Brahmas’ defense stepped up, with cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. forcing a fumble on the two-point conversion attempt.

In the second half, the Renegades managed to tie the game at 15-15 thanks to two field goals by Jonathan Garibay and an interception by cornerback Ajene Harris. However, the Brahmas responded with another Lovett touchdown run and a one-point conversion catch by Justin Smith to regain the lead at 22-15.

The Brahmas’ defense sealed the victory with a fourth-down stop and a sack by Zach McCloud, while Santoso added a 31-yard field goal to provide the final margin.

Despite the loss, Renegades quarterback Luis Perez had a solid performance, completing 26 of 36 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown, earning a passer rating of 144.4. Wide receiver JaVonta Payton was a bright spot for Arlington, leading all receivers with 119 yards and a touchdown.

The Renegades won the turnover battle 3-1 but struggled in the red zone, going 0-for-4. The Brahmas, on the other hand, were more efficient on third down, converting 4 of 9 attempts compared to the Renegades’ 3 of 14.

This victory comes on the heels of the Brahmas’ impressive Week 4 win over the Michigan Panthers, in which quarterback Quinten Dormady made his first start of the season and completed 23 of 37 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown. The Brahmas’ defense was equally impressive in that game, recording six sacks and forcing three turnovers.

With the win, the Brahmas solidify their position as one of the top teams in the UFL, thanks to a balanced offensive attack and a stout defense. The Renegades, meanwhile, will need to find a way to generate more consistency on both sides of the ball if they hope to notch their first win of the season.

Looking ahead, the Brahmas will face a tough test on the road against the D.C. Defenders in Week 6, while the Renegades will look to bounce back against the Michigan Panthers.

As the UFL season approaches its midway point, the playoff race is heating up, and every game takes on added significance. The Brahmas have positioned themselves as strong contenders, but they will need to continue their winning ways to secure a spot in the postseason. For the Renegades, the path to the playoffs is becoming increasingly difficult, but a victory in Week 6 could provide a much-needed spark to turn their season around.
