The Birmingham Stallions secured their place in history with a dominant 25-0 shutout against the San Antonio Brahmas at The Dome at America’s Center, clinching the inaugural United Football League (UFL) Championship.
The game showcased two of the league’s top defenses, leading to a scoreless standoff for nearly the entire first half. It wasn’t until late in the second quarter that the Stallions’ high-powered offense, ranked top in the league, began to show its prowess. Quarterback and UFL MVP Adrian Martinez connected with wide receiver Gary Jennings for an 8-yard touchdown pass with just 40 seconds remaining in the first half. A successful 2-point conversion extended their lead to 8-0 at intermission.
Second Half Dominance
The Stallions continued their offensive surge into the second half. Martinez opened the third quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run, followed by another 2-point conversion, pushing the score to 16-0. A critical turnover by San Antonio on their next possession, forced by linebacker Kyahva Tezino and recovered by safety Kenny Robinson Jr., led to another touchdown. Martinez scored on a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line, extending Birmingham’s lead to 22-0.
Kicker Chris Blewitt capped off the scoring with a 49-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, securing the 25-0 victory.
Stellar Performances
Adrian Martinez, who accounted for all three touchdowns, was named the UFL Championship Game MVP. He finished with 98 passing yards and one touchdown on 13-of-28 attempts, alongside 52 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Running back Ricky Person Jr. contributed significantly, rushing for 102 yards on 13 carries. Defensively, Tezino led the Stallions with nine tackles and two forced fumbles.
Historical Significance
With this victory, the Stallions have achieved three consecutive championships under head coach Skip Holtz, following their USFL titles in 2022 and 2023. They join the ranks of legendary teams like Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers and Hugh Campbell’s Edmonton Elks, who also won three straight championships.
A Testament to Team Building
Holtz and general manager Zach Potter have meticulously built a resilient team, composed of talented players overlooked by the NFL. Their philosophy focuses on acquiring and developing talent capable of overcoming adversity, and this strategy was evident in their flawless execution during the championship game.
Brahmas Struggle Against Stalwart Defense
San Antonio, known for its top-rated defense, found themselves outmatched. Despite a strong season, their offense struggled against Birmingham’s defensive unit, which held them to just 208 total yards and 52 rushing yards. Quarterback Chase Garbers completed 18-of-26 passes for 116 yards but was unable to lead his team to the end zone.
A Dynasty Solidified
The Stallions’ victory not only highlights their dominance in the UFL but also cements their legacy as one of the greatest teams in modern professional football. With an impressive 32-4 record over three years and an unbeaten postseason record under Holtz, Birmingham has set a new standard in the league.
The Brahmas, despite their defensive prowess and commendable season, could not withstand the Stallions’ multifaceted attack and tenacious defense. As the Stallions celebrated their third straight title, it became clear that they are the benchmark of excellence in the UFL, a testament to their strategic team-building and unyielding pursuit of victory.
