Spring football veteran Luis Perez is making his return to the Arlington Renegades, adding another chapter to his impressive journey through alternative football leagues. Perez, who led the UFL in several passing categories during the 2024 season, is rejoining the team where he has experienced his greatest professional success.

The path of the Mexican-American quarterback to professional football is as distinctive as his career itself. A former competitive bowler who never played varsity high school football, Perez has emerged as one of the most reliable quarterbacks in spring football. His collegiate career at Texas A&M-Commerce, where he won the Harlon Hill Trophy and guided his team to a Division II national championship, set the stage for his professional journey.

In 2024, Perez delivered his best performance to date, racking up 2,310 passing yards and boasting an impressive touchdown-to-interception ratio of 18:4. His remarkable accuracy and decision-making allowed him to lead the league in twelve different passing categories, cementing his reputation as one of the UFL’s top quarterbacks.

After his outstanding 2024 UFL season, Perez received a chance with the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers during the preseason. Although he showed potential, he was released during the final roster cuts in August, clearing the way for his return to Arlington.

The Renegades have shown their commitment to quarterback depth by keeping their entire 2024 quarterback room intact, with both Lindsey Scott Jr. and Holton Ahlers also returning for the 2025 season. However, due to Perez’s proven track record and his familiarity with Bob Stoops and Chuck Long’s offensive system, he is expected to be the starting quarterback as the season begins.

Perez’s journey through spring football leagues has been extensive, including experiences in the AAF, XFL, The Spring League, USFL, and now the UFL.
