Nearly every day, the UFL is busy with transactions. These are the ones that the UFL PR account announced this Tuesday.
Goodbyes/Cuts
- Omari Thomas, DT (Birmingham): Thomas seems to have been a selection in the free-for-all last round of the Free Agent Draft. He put up respectable numbers during his five season tenure at Tennessee, which earned him a camp invite in 2025 with the New Orleans Saints. He was cut at the end of preseason.
Hellos/Signings
Birmingham Stallions
- Isaiah Coe, DT: Coe gets his second opportunity to stick with the UFL thanks to the Stallions. A 2023 graduate of Oklahoma, Coe was initially drafted by the Battlehawks in the 6th round of the 2024 UFL draft. However, he was cut before the season began. His collegiate numbers suggest he is a player more skilled at stopping the run, which in a league often dominated by dual threat quarterbacks, could be very valuable.
- Michael Hiers, QB: Entering into the battle to backup Matt Corral, Hiers is a very exciting addition to the league that feels like it has been a long time coming. Hiers’ six year college career included two year stints at Murray State and Northwest Mississippi CC, but it was his final two years at Samford that propelled him into talk of being a potential NFL draft pick. In those two seasons he threw for 6,600 yards, threw 54 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, and holds the FCS career record for completion percentage with 74.3%. He did end up going undrafted and instead signed on with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders. After a season on the practice squad, he was released before the 2025 season and recently signed with the Arizona Rattlers of the IFL. It is unlikely that he’ll beat out Corral in training camp, but if the injury bug bites the Stallions as ferociously as last season, there’s a strong chance we’ll see Hiers on the field this year.
Louisville
- Mekhi Garner, CB: Garner is another player getting a second shot with the UFL. In 2025, the Arlington Renegades signed him after training camp began, which made him a fairly unsurprising cut two weeks later. Prior to that, was on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad for two seasons & after he was signed by the Chicago Bears for the final two weeks of this year’s training camp.
Orlando
- KJ Hamler, WR: The UFL is having wild luck with former 2nd round draft picks. They lost Irv Smith and Andrew Booth, but today gained the 46th pick of the NFL draft. Coming out of Penn State, Hamler was drafted by the Denver Broncos. He started 4 games his rookie year and put up a respectable 381 yards & 3 touchdowns. However, a hamstring injury struck him at the end of the season and the next season he was knocked out by a week 3 ACL injury. In 2022 he injured his hamstring again and in the off–season had surgery for a torn pec muscle. On top of all of that, he was diagnosed with pericarditis, which affects the outer sac of the heart and results in sharp chest pain. The Broncos cut him and he spent time on the practice squads of the Colts and Bills. Hamler’s horrific luck has held him back, but this is precisely the kind of second chance he really deserves.
St. Louis Battlehawks
- William Hardy, LB: Coming out of D2 Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama, Hardy was a regular feature for all four seasons. From 2021-24 he racked up 20 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 5 pass deflections, and 4 forced fumbles. He is a bit undersized compared to the average NFL linebacker, but the drive is clearly there. Of course, there is the question of if he can play against stronger competition, but the UFL is really built to give guys like Hardy a genuine chance.
- Tayler Hawkins, FS: Hawkins returns for his second season with the UFL. In 2024 he started 3 games for the DC Defenders and notched a total of 20 tackles for the team. DC didn’t choose to protect or draft him, so St. Louis has swooped in. Also, fun fact: in Hawkins’ one NFL game with the San Francisco 49ers, he tallied 4 tackles and an interception.
- Keylon Kennedy, CB: A true veteran of spring football Kennedy makes his return after spending 2025 in the CFL Edmonton Elks’ training camp. In 2023 he was a full time starter for the Vegas Vipers (where he snagged 2 interceptions), but in 2024 he was used much more sparingly by the Battlehawks. A change in coaching may give him more opportunity this year, but if stats are any indication, Kennedy posits to be more of a depth player.
